NAILD's Six Keys to Success
A former Denver Broncos captain and All-Pro, Karl Mecklenburg rose from being a college walk-on and a 12th round draft pick to a pro career that included six Pro Bowl and three Super Bowl appearances. Considered the NFL's most versatile player, Karl played all seven defensive front positions. In 2001, Karl was inducted into the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame and the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. Karl has been a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame each of the last three years. The lessons that life in the NFL taught him about teamwork, courage, dedication, desire, honesty and forgiveness, and goal setting are his "Six Keys to Success."
Moving the Needle on Sales Performance
Duane Cashin is a nationally known motivational speaker with an extraordinary range of experience. In addition to leading successful sales organizations in several Fortune 500 companies, Duane built his multi-million dollar graphics company that served clients including the NFL, the 2002 Winter Olympics, Radio City Music Hall, MTV Studios, and Rockefeller Center. He demonstrates that although it is crowded out there, it really isn't more competitive if you understand your clients. The Ever-Changing World of Lighting Controls

Panelists: Matthew Murray, EW Energy Sales Area Leader (West), Lutron; Otto Hottendorf, regional sales manager, Universal Lighting Technologies; Bob Jordan, business development manager, OSRAM SYLVANIA
Jim Benya, principal and partner of Benya Burnett Consultancy, presented a discussion on the ever-changing world of controls. This discussion looked at how the implementation of controls will affect the lighting industry. Lighting will eventually be competing with IT, telecom, and more, and the issue will come down to "who controls the controls." Benya will look at what this means for the distributors, how attendees may implement the controls, and have an update of where the implementation of controls are at and standards affecting them. This session also included a panel discussion to gain greater insight to the many facets of controls.
The Future of Lighting
Mark Lien, OSRAM SYLVANIA
Our lighting community may cease to exist in its current form as SSL is assimilated into other building products. Industries are aligning and trajectories are converging. What remains alarming is the velocity of change toward a strange new world facing both lighting professionals and users. This presentation analyzed the changes to energy, regulations, trends and technology that are positioned to dissolve our industry as we know it. This disruption will affect distributors in multiple ways. With change comes opportunity but only for those who understand and can prepare.
