A Note from NAILD Membership Chairman, David Walker

Thank you for visiting the NAILD website.  As the NAILD Membership Chair, I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you and to tell you more about what NAILD has to offer.

Since its start in 1977, NAILD has been committed to education and providing networking opportunities for the lighting distributor.  NAILD offers several different ways for anyone within the lighting industry to further their knowledge through several facets.  Attendees at NAILD’s annual conference choose from a variety of educational track sessions as well as general sessions on leading topics in the industry.  On top of the annual conference, NAILD offers education throughout the year in monthly webinars called “A Light Lunch”, regional educational roadshows hosted by our Manufacturer members and two publications: a quarterly print “Today’s Lighting Distributor” and a weekly e-brief, “A Light Read”.  In the forefront of NAILD’s educational offerings is the NAILD Lighting Specialist I Course – an on demand online regiment designed to take a new hire with no lighting background to the the counter with confidence and competence in their lighting knowledge.

NAILD’s annual conference is the perfect venue to get together with likeminded individuals in the industry, with its schedule offering plenty of networking opportunities.  NAILD also boasts the industry’s only Product Sprint, which takes place at the annual conference/tradeshow where our Manufacturer members bring their latest and greatest and have one on one opportunities to sit and chat with company heads.

Distributor

Distributor: An applicant, to qualify, as a Distributor or Affiliate member in the Association must:

  1. Have a separate professional staff solely dedicated to the selling, stocking, and distribution of lighting products; and
  2. Maintain in the United States of America or the Dominion of Canada, a warehouse or similar facility in a physical location, zoned for commercial or industrial purposes by the municipality wherein such facility is located; and ship 50% or more of its inventory from stock; and
  3. Have been an existing business entity for at least the two (2) full calendar years immediately prior to the date of application; and
  4. Not be owned by a division of or financially related to any lighting manufacturer; and
  5. Have annual purchases of lighting products from manufacturers, of at least $250,000.
  6. Have paid the required initiation fees and annual dues, as set forth herein, and
  7. be recommended by the Executive Committee

Associate

Associate*: An applicant, to qualify, as an Associate member in the Association, must:

  1. Have in interest in raising the level of confidence and competence in light and lighting either for their company or themselves
  2. Have paid the required initiation fees and annual dues, as set forth herein; and
  3. be recommended by the Executive Committee

*Associate Member is a Non-Voting category and ineligible to hold office.

Manufacturer

Manufacturer: an applicant, to qualify, as a manufacturer member in the Association, must:

  1. Have a separate professional staff dedicated to the selling of lighting products through distribution channels; and
  2. Maintain in the United States of America or the Dominion of Canada, a warehouse or similar facility in a physical location, zoned for commercial or industrial purposes by the municipality wherein such facility is located; and
  3. Have been an existing business entity for at least the three (3) full calendar years in the United States or the Dominion of Canada prior to the date of application; and
  4. Have paid the required initiation fees and annual dues, as set forth herein; and
  5. Be recommended by the Executive Committee

Associate Manufacturer

Associate Manufacturer*: An applicant, to qualify, as an Associate Manufacturer member in the Association, must:

  1. Have been an existing business entity for at least three (3) full calendar years in the United States or the Dominion of Canada prior to the date of application; and
  2. Not be engaged in the business of lighting or directly intended to compete with members who qualify as Distributor, Affiliate or Manufacturer members; and
  3. Have paid the required initiation fees and annual dues, as set forth herein; and
  4. Be recommended by the Executive Committee

*Associate Manufacturer member is a non-voting category and ineligible to hold office
